‘Just As I Am’ service: Sunday November 1st in the church hall of St Mary’s church in Brading. Join us for 'Just As I Am'—a short, gentle, cafe-style gathering filled with familiar hymns, simple prayers, and short scripture readings. Specially designed for those who find attending standard services difficult due to frailty, illness, or cognitive loss, this friendly space offers a relaxed environment where everyone is welcome exactly as they are. Refreshments will be served—we would love you to join us.
Calling all Knitters and Crocheters: If you are able to knit or crochet a small knee blanket I would be very grateful. We are just about to start the ‘Covered In Prayer’ project. This will gift those who are unwell, in hospital or hospice a knee blanket (which will be blessed) and a prayer card. The blanket will signify that the wearer is covered in prayer and with our love. Please let me know if you are able to help out.
Special Talk: The High Sheriff of The Isle of Wight will be giving a special talk on his end of life planning initiative. ’My Life. My Death. My Plan’ November 4th at 6pm in St Mary’s Church Hall in Brading. This is something that we all need to think about and this will encourage open, supportive conversations. Free entry and refreshments will be served. All welcome and do encourage anyone who may be interested to join you.
The Haven Churches Website: Our website serves as a vibrant, welcoming digital hub that connects our parish communities. It provides an encouraging space where visitors and parishioners alike can easily stay up to date with upcoming service times, community events, and uplifting parish news. Through its (I hope and pray!) thought-provoking blog posts and inspiring spiritual reflections, the website offers a quiet harbour for spiritual growth and comfort whenever people need it most. A sincere thank you goes to Philip, whose dedicated work as editor keeps this resource so engaging, beautifully organised, and filled with hope - ensuring our online home remains a true reflection of our living, welcoming church family. I encourage you to head over to www.havenchurches.org.uk
I am delighted to introduce ‘The Living Way’, a gentle new service grounded in Celtic Christianity. Gathering on Sunday, 8th November at 3pm in St Helen’s Church, this peaceful time of reflection focuses on the rich spiritual traditions of Northumbria and Iona. Designed to offer a tranquil, contemplative space to pause and reconnect, it provides a quiet atmosphere for prayer, stillness, and worship. Everyone is warmly invited to join us, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
As the late autumn sun dips low over Sophie Watson’s garden in Seaview this 6th of November, a gentle stillness settles upon the earth, setting a tranquil stage for the four o'clock blessing of our new war memorial bench. In the quiet sacredness of our parish, gathering to honour those who laid down their lives across both World Wars, reminds us that our churches remain enduring sanctuaries of memory, faith, and gratitude.
That same spirit of watchful care weaves through our community this week as the very first 'Covered in Prayer' blankets and prayer cards are delivered to bring warmth and solace to those who are sick or recovering. To every hand that laboured to craft our first blankets, I offer my deepest thanks; your work turns simple threads into tangible comfort, wrapping our parishioners in the enduring grace and love of our shared fold. If you know someone who would appreciate being ‘Covered in Prayer’ with one of our blankets do let me know.
It was a joyful blessing to meet Cleo Bourne and Harry Wallis recently and to book their upcoming wedding at St Helen’s Church. As they begin this wonderful journey toward holy matrimony, please keep Cleo and Harry in your prayers for God’s guidance, peace, and abundance as they prepare for their big day.
On another joyful note, calling all singers! Suki Turner (07940 503971) is looking for new members to join the Events Choir, offering plenty of lovely opportunities to sing glorious tunes over the coming Advent and Christmas seasons - you don't need to be Pavarotti or Maria Callas, just someone who loves lifting their voice in song!
Readings for 1st November, All Saints Day: Psalm 34:1-10, Revelation 7:9-end, 1 John 3:1-3
Collect for Sunday 1st November. All Saints Day: God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age; as we rejoice in the faith of your saints, inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy; through Jesus our Lord. Amen
Post Communion Prayer: God, the source of all good things; may we who have shared at this table as strangers and pilgrims here on earth be welcomed with all of your saints to the heavenly feast on the day of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Sunday 8th November, REMEMBRANCE DAY: Brading at 10.15 (in church, followed by Act of Remembrance), Seaview at 10.45, Yaverland at 10.45, St Helens at 10.45. ‘The Living Way’ Service at St Helens at 3pm

May The Haven Beacon be a light that keeps us connected, inspired, and rooted in God’s love!
