‘Just As I Am’ service: Sunday October 25th in the church hall of St Mary’s church in Brading. Join us for 'Just As I Am'—a short, gentle, cafe-style gathering filled with familiar hymns, simple prayers, and short scripture readings. Specially designed for those who find attending standard services difficult due to frailty, illness, or cognitive loss, this friendly space offers a relaxed environment where everyone is welcome exactly as they are. Refreshments will be served—we would love you to join us.
Organ Recital: Our marvellous organist Andrew Cooper will be giving an organ recital in St Helen’s Church on Saturday 24th October at 3.00pm. This will last for about 50 minutes and will be followed by tea and cakes. There will be a retiring collection for church funds.
Calling all Knitters and Crocheters (is that a word or have I just made it up?!): If you are able to knit or crochet a small knee blanket I would be very grateful. We are just about to start the ‘Covered In Prayer’ project. This will gift those who are unwell, in hospital or hospice a knee blanket (which will be blessed) and a prayer card. The blanket will signify that the wearer is covered in prayer and with our love. Please let me know if you are able to help out.
Collect for Sunday 18th October: Almighty God, you called Luke the physician, whose praise is in the gospel, to be an evangelist and physician of the soul: by the grace of the Spirit and through the wholesome medicine of the gospel, give your Church the same love and power to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Post Communion Prayer: Lord God, the source of truth and love, keep us faithful to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, united in prayer and the breaking of bread, and one in joy and simplicity of heart, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Haven Churches Website: Working alongside Philip he has added all of the recent updates and news of upcoming events, my blog and feedback from the AD’s Listening Day. I encourage you to head over to www.havenchurches.org.uk for so much more than I can either squeeze onto The Beacon or into the What’s On Magazine.
Remembrance Services. Remembrance services will be held in our churches on Remembrance Day, 8th November at 10.45. Please do come along and support this service, it is the most poignant one in our calendar.
Evensong in Yaverland: Tonight (18th) at 5.30pm we will be holding our Evensong Service in St John The Baptist Church in Yaverland. It has become a much beloved staple of our calendar and is a beautiful way to end the weekend.
As we head into Advent and Christmas at an alarming rate, there is news to share from across our church communities. The Advent and Christmas rotas are being finalised as we speak, so keep an eye out for upcoming details on our Advent Course (Walking With Angels), The Marvellous Church Mouse Hunt, our Light Up A Life Services in partnership with Mountbatten Hospice, and our traditional Carol Services—plus plenty of other festive events on the way!
Over the next couple of weeks I’m meeting with three more couples who are planning to get married in our churches.
Lastly, if you have a green thumb or a bit of spare time to lend a hand to our volunteer gardeners in St Helen’s churchyard, please reach out to Sue Whitewick at 01983 568761.
I am delighted to introduce ‘The Living Way’, a gentle new service grounded in Celtic Christianity. Gathering on Sunday 8th November at 3pm in St Helen’s Church, this peaceful time of reflection focuses on the rich spiritual traditions of Northumbria and Iona. Designed to offer a tranquil, contemplative space to pause and reconnect, it provides a quiet atmosphere for prayer, stillness, and worship. Everyone is warmly invited to join us, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
Whether you are looking to deepen your personal prayer life or simply want to join with others in fellowship and faith, all are welcome. Come and be part of keeping those lines of communication with God wide open!
